Additional Funding Secured for the Reconstruction of Memorial Park

In 2014, the Village was awarded a $50,000 capital grant from NY State Senator Jack Martins for the reconstruction of Memorial Park. Based on initial estimates, this funding, along with $75,000 allocated in the Village budget should have been sufficient for the entire project. However, the bids submitted far exceeded budget estimates by over $150,000. The Village Board was faced with a tough decision to either scale back the project or to allocate more resources to fund the project.

When Senator Martins heard of our predicament, he immediately offered his help and secured for the Village an additional $150,000 so that the entire project can be completed. The Village Board awarded the work to Metro Paving on February 17, 2015 for the cost of $239,000.  Construction is expected to begin in March and work should be completed before Memorial Day.

Children's Summer

 Recreation Program

The Village Parks and Recreation Commission is pleased to offer our extremely popular Children’s Summer Recreation Program to be held at Memorial Park.   Children between the ages of 6 through 12 will be treated to hours of fun and enjoyment. The large shelter at Memorial Park provides a sun-free setting for games and entertainment.

The Program will run Monday through Thursday for five weeks beginning on Monday, July 7 through Thursday, August 7.   Children will be divided into two age specific sessions.   Children ages 6 - 8 will attend the morning session from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM.   Youth between the ages of 9 - 12 will attend the afternoon session from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM.   All activities will be geared to the appropriate age groups.   The Park Field Office will be closed for lunch between the hours of 12:30 PM and 1:30 PM and no supervision will be available during that period.

Registration will be held at Village Hall on Tuesday, June 24 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.   Please bring a completed application for each child along with proof of residency (tax bill, utility bill, etc.)  A 1 inch by 1.5 inch photo of your child is also required.  If you have more than one child to register, blank application forms will be available on the day of registration.  This program is provided free of charge to Village residents.  Non-village residents in the 11040 zip code are eligible, pending availability, with a $100 registration fee per child.

The Village Parks and Recreation Commission is confident that this Program will provide your children with some great summer entertainment and encourage you to have your children participate.
