Mattress and Box Springs Disposal
As of February 1, 2021, please note the following change to the Villages sanitation collection procedures:
In an effort to manage public health concerns and for the safety of our employees, the Village is now requiring all residents who are disposing of a mattress or box spring to fully enclose these items within a plastic mattress bag. Bags must be properly secured and completely sealed. Failure to fully enclose the mattress or box spring within a plastic mattress bag will result in a non-collection of the item.
The Village does not supply or sell mattress bags. Mattress bags can be purchased at most home improvement stores, department stores, or on-line retail site.
Department of Public Works
Leaf Collection
The leaf collection schedule remains unchanged from last year. Please note that yard waste pick up ends on the first Wednesday in December.
Please refer to this map to determine the day leaves will be collected on your block.
Road crews are out with the street sweeper or with the leaf collection equipment. Residents are asked to rake leaves into the street on the day before their scheduled leaf pickup and the Department of Public Works will sweep or vacuum the leaves away. No bagging, no fuss, no mess!
The street sweeper and leaf collection equipment will operate quicker & more efficiently if there are no obstacles in the street. We need your cooperation and ask that you remove any portable items. Leaf collection equipment can only pick up leaves. Please do not rake rocks, branches, and/or plants into the street for collection. Doing so will only impede the effectiveness and can even break the leaf collection equipment.
If you have any questions, please call the DPW at (516) 354-0064.
General Trash/Recycle Information
Garbage, newspapers, and recyclables cannot
be put curbside before 7:00 pm on the day prior to pick up.
DPW provides two bulk and one e-waste pickup every week, excluding holidays, on appointment basis only. Call DPW at 354-0064 to schedule a special bulk or an e-waste pick up.
Please ensure all trash items are secure before placing curbside for pick up. This will help prevent trash, papers, boxes, and recyclables from blowing into the street or onto a neighbor’s property.
Empty trash receptacles left curbside all day are unsightly and could signal that the home is unattended. Place empty trash receptacles in the rear of your property. If you see a neighbor’s empty receptacles left curbside, please help out an
