Transportation for Seniors

Various types of transportation are offered to Seniors in our neighborhood.

Project Independence Taxi Transportation Program
If you are age 60 or older and a Village resident within the Town of North Hempstead you are eligible for the Project Independence Taxi Transportation program. This provides FREE food shopping transportation twice a week to designated shopping centers in the Town of North Hempstead, between 10AM and 2PM. The days of the week vary by community. The Town also provides discounted taxi rides for non-emergency medical, dental and treatment appointments within the Town of North Hempstead, as well as some frequently other visited destinations, seven days a week.

Nice Bus Transportation
The Nassau County Senior Citizen Leisure Pass entitles seniors age 60 and over to ride at half fare on NICE buses in Nassau County.  Transfers can be obtained which are valid for two connecting bus routes in the same direction.

Long Island Railroad
Senior citizens age 65 and over may use their Medicare card, driver’s license or birth certificate at any ticket office or aboard a train to receive half fare on the Long Island Railroad except for trains arriving in N.Y.C. between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. on weekdays. The railroad reserves the right to ask for additional personal identification or a signature sample.
